Flooding: questions
What is the difference between a flood alert and a flood warning?
A flood alert means flooding is possible: be prepared. A flood warning means flooding is expected: take action now. A severe flood warning means there is a danger to life.
Why does this page only list England?
The Environment Agency's open data covers England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each run their own flood service, linked on this page, and we would rather send you to the official source than show a partial copy.
How can I get flood warnings sent to me?
In England you can sign up for free flood warnings by phone, text or email at gov.uk/get-flood-warnings. SEPA and Natural Resources Wales run their own free services.
