What shapes Northern Ireland's weather

Northern Ireland lies directly in the path of Atlantic systems, so changeable weather is the norm and long dry spells are less common than in eastern Britain. The surrounding seas keep winters mild and summers cool.

The west, around Fermanagh and the Sperrins, is wetter than the east coast. Lough Neagh, the largest lake in the UK and Ireland, moderates temperatures nearby and can encourage fog on calm nights.
