Weather warnings: questions

What do yellow, amber and red warnings mean?

The Met Office sets the colour from two things: how likely the weather is, and how much impact it could have. Yellow means be aware: some disruption is possible. Amber means be prepared: travel delays, power cuts and a risk to life are possible. Red means take action: dangerous weather is expected and you should follow advice from the emergency services.

Does Long Range Weather issue its own warnings?

No. Only the Met Office issues official weather warnings for the UK. We show their warnings unedited, with a link to the full text, and never add warnings of our own.

How often is this page updated?

We check the Met Office feed every five minutes. For the full warning text and the warning map, follow the link on each warning to the Met Office.
