About the temperature map
Why is the map warmer near the coast in winter?
The sea holds its heat far longer than land. In winter, coastal places and islands stay several degrees milder than inland valleys, especially at night; in summer it is the other way round.
Is the colour field measured temperature?
No. It is the GFS model's 2 metre temperature forecast on a 25 km grid. The numbers on the static maps below come from the forecast for each town.
