We collect as little as possible. The site runs no advertising and has no accounts, and Google Analytics runs only if you accept it. Last updated 4 November 2026.

What we process
- Server logs. Like any website, our server records the IP address, time, page requested and browser type of each request, to keep the site secure and working. Logs are kept only as long as needed for that purpose and then deleted. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
- Analytics, only if you accept. With your consent, Google Analytics sets cookies to count visits and see which pages are used: pages viewed, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser. Nothing from Google loads until you press Accept, and you can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the foot of every page. Google acts as our processor. Lawful basis: consent.
- Place searches. When you search for a place, the text you type is sent from our server to our geocoding provider (Open-Meteo) to find matches. It is not linked to you.
- Your location. Only if you press Use my location (or the locate button on the map) and allow it in your browser. On the map your position stays in your browser. Use my location rounds it to two decimal places (about a kilometre) and opens the forecast for that point, so the rounded position is part of the page address: our server and our content delivery provider see it like any page request, and our server sends it to our forecast provider (Open-Meteo) to fetch the forecast. We do not store it with anything that identifies you. Lawful basis: your request.
- Saved places. Places you save with the star are kept in your own browser’s local storage and are never sent to us. Remove them with the cross next to each one on the home page, or by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
- Emails you send us. Used to reply, and deleted when no longer needed. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
Third parties your browser contacts
Weather data reaches your browser through our own server. On the map pages only, your browser also loads map tiles directly from OpenFreeMap and, on the satellite layer, images from NASA. Those services receive your IP address as part of the request, under their own privacy terms. If you accept analytics, your browser also contacts Google Analytics. No other third party is contacted.
Our hosting and content delivery providers process requests on our behalf.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of personal data we hold about you, and object to processing. Email us. If you are unhappy with our reply you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
