About cloud and sunshine
How is sunshine forecast?
Models estimate how many hours direct sunlight will reach the ground, from the cloud they predict at all levels. Sunshine forecasts are less reliable than temperature, because thin or broken cloud is hard to model.
Why can it be cloudy on the map and sunny where I am?
The cloud layer is a model forecast on a 25 km grid. Small gaps, sea breezes and local fog are finer than that. For what the sky actually looks like, the satellite view is the better guide.
